Exploring the Wild Places of Surrey
Surrey is full of fantastic spots where wildlife likes to live and play. You don’t have to travel far to find animals, as parks, woods and rivers are filled with creatures, big and small. One brilliant place to visit is very close to us.
Box Hill, a beautiful place, where you can climb to the top and look out over miles of trees and fields.
Another exciting place is Thursley Common, where frogs hop across ponds and dragonflies zip through the air like tiny helicopters. Don’t forget to stop by places like Painshill Park – you never know what animals might be waiting to say hello.
Meet the Summer Animals in Surrey
Summer is a busy time for animals. With the warm weather and long days, many creatures come out to explore and find food. You might notice rabbits hopping around fields in the early morning or evening. Keep your eyes open for foxes, too. They’re clever and quiet, and sometimes you can see one trotting along a path just as the sun starts to set.
But, some of the busiest wildlife in summer comes in the smallest packages. In gardens, parks and meadows, you’ll find all kinds of fascinating insects. Bees are some of the most important summer visitors in Surrey. They fly from flower to flower, collecting nectar and helping plants grow by spreading pollen.
Another helpful little insect is the ladybird. These red bugs with black spots love to eat garden pests, and they’re easy to spot resting on leaves or crawling over flowers. You’ll also see lots of butterflies, especially on warm, sunny days.
Birds in the Trees and Surrey Skies
Birds are everywhere in Surrey during the summer. If you listen carefully, you’ll hear them chirping and singing from early in the morning until the sun goes down. One of the friendliest birds is the robin, with its bright red chest. Robins are brave and sometimes come quite close, especially if you sit quietly on a bench. You might also see ducks splashing in ponds or waddling around riverbanks. High up in the sky, look out for a large bird with a forked tail gliding through the air. That’s a red kite, and it’s one of the most impressive birds you can spot in Surrey.
Get Ready for Your Wild Summer
Before you head out, pack a small bag with some helpful things. You might want to bring binoculars to see animals far away, a notebook and pencil to write down what you see, and a bottle of water to stay cool.
So put on your explorer hat, step outside and see what wild wonders you can find this summer.
We are extremely lucky to be situated in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK and our farm has an abundance of native animals and wildlife all year round.
